Battalion goalie uses relationship made with billet household as motivation during games

North Bay Battalion goaltender Domenic DiVincentiis – the Dom’inator – is the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) goalie of the week for the second week in a row and for the third time this season.

He advised CTV News he credits his motivation to the particular relationship he has made with his billet household, the Carellos, who he lives with in the course of the season.

When he isn’t stopping pucks, you’ll find him spending household enjoyable time with Peter and Tanya Carello and their two daughters Ruby and Sloan.

DiVincentiis has quite a busy life from goalie to appearing like a big brother to the girls.

“They (the girls) have a lot of stuffed animals and they love to bury me in them and bounce on me with them,” he said with a chuckle.

The Carellos’ residence has been his home because the start of final season.

“Really making him really feel part of our household was important to us,” stated Tanya.

“We have dinner collectively just about each night time and that’s important to us to have that family setting.”

The Carellos have been billets for North Bay Battalion players since 2019. DiVincentiis is the third member of the Troop to stay with them. At one time, the Carellos even had two gamers living with them at the identical time.

“We have been some of the very first followers when the team moved from Brampton,” mentioned Tanya.

“It was an opportunity to offer again to the higher hockey group.”

The household obtained to all of the Battalion home games to cheer the group and DiVincentiis on. They have even travelled to look at the staff play on the road a handful of instances this season.

DiVincentiis admits transferring to North Bay from his hometown of Bolton, Ont. was a tough adjustment at first.

“Moving up right here was positively robust at first. Their first language is French so it was clearly completely different. But you be taught to develop a relationship with them,” said DiVincentiis.

Tanya stated being a ‘mom’ to a hockey goalie could be difficult but rewarding. The household is enjoying the friendship her daughters have made. She described DiVincentiis as a role-model for her youngsters.

“The extra time you put into it, the more you get out of it,” she stated.

“Just him coming home and having that welcoming presence and getting lots of hugs is a two-way avenue for our ladies.”

As for the ‘Dom’inator,’ he stated he appreciates having 4 additional fans cheering him on motivating him to be the best he can be.

“I inform the ladies before I depart for each sport to return down for handshakes with the opposite gamers,” he stated.

“It’s nice to see them before the sport. It brings lots of pleasure.”

It is a family situation all are happy with and one they say they hope continues to blossom.
